Bat Mitzvah Kippahs

Posted on October 06 2016

According to Jewish custom, when a female turns 12 years of age (as opposed to 13 for a male), she becomes a Bat Mitzva. Literally translated as 'Of Commandment Age', the term refers to the young girl reaching an age where she is required to follow Jewish law and customs responsible for her own actions. The occasion is a happy one, usually marked with a party for family and friends. There is also usually a celebration in the synagogue as well, with the Bat Mitzvah girl called up to the Torah in Conservative and Reform congregations.

Recently the trend has been that Bat Mitzva parties (like Bar Mitzvas) are becoming more and more extravagant, more like a weekend party than just a one night event. The family of the Bat Mitzvah girl will commonly order special custom kippahs for the family and/or friends to wear in commemoration of the celebration. These personalized kippahs usually have the logo of the event, or the name of the Bat Mitzva girl on them. Pic-A-Kippa has revolutionized the world of Bat Mitzvah kippahs by enabling full size pictures across the entire yarmulke, in a way never done before.
